About this course
An introductory course for gastroenterologists and IBD clinicians, focused on transabdominal small-bowel scanning, especially the terminal ileum and Crohn's disease.
Learning outcomes
- Locate the terminal ileum and demonstrate a systematic small-bowel examination.
- Measure bowel wall features and describe vascularity using appropriate technique.
- Recognize complications, report limitations and explain how findings inform follow-up.
Course timetable
Saturday 12 December, 08:30–16:30, at the Cairo Marriott Hotel, Zamalek.

Hands-on stations
Three groups of five rotate through three stations for 70 minutes each. Two stations provide supervised scanning and one provides structured case interpretation. Models or recorded cases supplement teaching when the relevant pathology is unavailable.
Normal small bowel and terminal ileum: landmarks, image optimization and documentation
IBD activity assessment: wall thickness, Doppler and comparison with prior scans
Strictures, penetrating disease and follow-up: image interpretation and structured reporting
Teaching team
Each participant joins one crash course.

Good to know
- This course is introductory and does not confer IBUS certification.
- Practical times are scheduled group rotations, not individual operating time.
- Places are totals per course, not remaining places. The registration team confirms current availability, and a waiting list opens when a course is full.
- Already registered for the congress? Tell the team which course you want so it is added to your booking.
- After you register, the registration team confirms your place and arranges payment with you.
Assessment
Assessment uses image cases and observed scanning tasks. This is an introductory EGH course; attendance does not confer IBUS certification or eligibility for its subsequent training modules.
